John Holdren, chief science advisor to President Obama, claims that our planet could be hit by an asteroid and it could bring about catastrophic consequences. An asteroid is anything that orbits the sun and is not big enough to be a planet. They might be dangerous if an asteroid big enough hits the Earth. Chicxulub is a town in Mexico, and there's a crater close to it. It's about 110 miles in diameter and is 12 miles deep! It's believed that the asteroid that made this crater also led to the extinction of some dinosaurs and other forms of life.
