The Greek island of Mount Athos, also known as the Holy Mountain, is a place where some of the largest and oldest Orthodox monasteries are located. Women are banned from entering for a weird reason.

For a thousand years now, Mount Athos has been the home of monks from Eastern Orthodox countries. It is an island with a great tradition, dating back to the 10th century. Today, there are more than 2,000 monks on the island.
