If you're a fan of game shows, there's no need to explain 'The Price Is Right.' It's one of the most popular game shows in the history of TV! And a couple of years ago, there was a 60-year-old guy who managed to win: Terry Kniess. However, after that, the whole system had to be changed because the producers thought he cheated! Read on and find out how Terry managed to win and if he actually cheated.
The Show Has Been on Air Since 1956
The show was at its peak when Bob Barker was the host, however, Drew Carey is doing a great job.
It's Not Easy
It's really hard to win, you have to take a guess and be right for all those prices.
But There's One Guy Who Managed to Win
Terry Kneiss shocked everyone when he took a chance on the price of a showcase and guessed correctly.
It turned out that Terry used to work in surveillance for casinos and as a weather reporter. It helped him to learn how to recognize certain patterns.
The Contestant's Row segment was easy for him, but the Big Green Egg grill wasn't enough for him. He made it to the showcase showdown!
So How Did He Win?
Terry and his wife studied the show for quite some time before he competed, it took them four months to work out the system.
They realized that the show uses the same brands for years, so they memorized only products of those brands.
But he had to take a guess when it came to an item and said $23,743. Usually, $20k is the right price range for many items at this stage. He also used April 7th, the day of his wedding, and March, the month his wife was born. The price actually turned out to be exactly what was asked!
Because Terry was correct and since no one guessed the exact figure until now, the host and the producers had to check if he was cheating, but nothing was found. But no one could believe he didn't cheat, even though they couldn't find proof, so they decided to change the system.
Now the prices are monitored more carefully, everything is very different when it comes to products and they change the little things when it comes to cars (they add or remove stuff like music players, GPS systems, etc).
What Happened to the Winner?
In the end, Terry and his wife were forced to sell some stuff to be able to pay the taxes on the prize. They stopped watching the show after the rules were changed.
