Jake Gyllenhaal had an extremely hard time during the filming of this movie. David Fincher, the director, made him perform exhausting, multiple takes of many scenes. As many as 10 takes were shot and discarded on purpose, and Gyllenhaal was humiliated by Fincher.

David Fincher also had an argument with Ben Affleck in Gone Girl. In one scene, Affleck wore a cap to disguise himself.
